The sunrise is showing a complete different world.
Shades of shoking nature are filling the composition on the glass, while the bus is crossing curves and horses in the crazy run to Medellin.
Something big is appearing from the screen. The city is a huge mass of red roofs lost between the green, asleep bi¡etween the mountains which are taking care of her. Traffic lights and order bring it to another Colombia, a country where ordinary life is different, according to Caribbean’s standards.
No any person could believe in the change. Fifteen years ago, this it was one of the worst places in the world, when Pablo Escobar was “el patròn” and Medellin was the Cape Carnaval on the way Cocaine-World.
Now there is a metro (the only one in the country) and the Big Ghost is just on the feelings of the city. Medellin is known as the Botero’s bornplace, and Lonely Planet describes it as a “Texan-colombian place”. Nightlife is really safe, and people is living much more quiete here than in Barranquilla or Naples. Just in the poorest suburb of the city, families are keeping Pablo’s picture in the living-rooms, but this is another story, and no one wants to heard it.

Ciao Baltic, mi sa che il Metro peró fa parte del passato piuttosto che del futuro… MI pare sia stato costruito “a quei tempi” o almeno con “quei soldi”… Comunque MedellÃn é davvero un mito di cittá… io non la conosco ancora e mi farebbe piacere leggere le tue impressioni!

Perbacco non lo avrei immaginato. Sembra abbastanza moderno. Sicuramente, è tuttora in via di sviluppo: hanno da poco inaugurato, pare, una nuova linea della funicolare che collega il centro con le favelas lassù in alto sui due fianchi, ed è strano ammettere che la sua utilità è principalmente “voyeuristica”: comodamente seduto nel tuo cestello scruti la difficile vita che si tira avanti 5 metri piu in basso, casa per casa e finestra per finestra.
Sicuramente devi tenere in considerazione Medellin per il tuo prossimo viaggio in Colombia. Una piacevole sorpresa.
